Christchurch South Rotary has a proud tradition of assisting both local and international communities.

Between July 2016 and June 2017 we have assisted in the following ways:

Donated $550 to help an MS sufferer participate in the Oceans of Hope yachting cruise around Croatia.

Donated $1,000 through Rotary New Zealand World Community Service for disaster relief in Fiji.

Donated $500 to a Middleton Grange student to assist with funding for a school trip to Tonga.

Donated $700 to the All stars Marching Team to assist them getting to the competitions in Invercargill.

Gave a Young Totara award to Rotary Young Totara to Jack Lopas of Little River. Jack is the World Junior Double Sculls (Rowing) winner for 2016 and the singles and double sculls winner of the NZ secondary schools championships. He has won a High Performance Scholarship at Lincoln University for 2017 and has also been selected in the Southern Rowing Performance Centre's Rowing NZ development squad.

Gave $2,760 to sponsor three young people to attend the 2017 Rotary Youth Leadership Award RYLA programme. In addition to this, a committee of Christchurch South members chaired by Tony Blackler has actually run the RYLA programme for the last three years.

Donated $4,980 to the Rannerdale War Veterans'

Rest Home to enable the fit-out of one of the

rooms in their new Jacinda Baker Wing.

Donated $1,000 to the Linwood Avenue Community Corner Trust

for Christmas parcels.

Donated $1,000 to South West Baptist Church

for Christmas parcels.

Ran a speech competition for year 7 and 8 children at local primary schools.

Donated $1500 to the Champion Centre to help Lauren Porter

complete her PhD on post earthquake effects on low risk premature

babies and first time mothers in Christchurch.

Donated $750 to Linwood-Woolston Rotary for Christmas Parcels

Raised $944.30 for the Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer Appeal

by collecting at Christchurch Airport

Donated $250 to a campaign in support of Pink Ribbon being run by girls at Christchurch Girls' High School

Donated $3,000 to the St Thomas College rowing squad to assist with the purchase of equipment. This was in recognition of the College's assistance with bagging the chicken manure for our rotary club's annual fund-raising project.

Raised $3750 for Multiple Schlerosis and Parkinsons Disease

by helping with their street appeal

Raised $1180 for the Arthritis Society by assisting with their street collection

Club members have so far made personal donations totalling $915 to the Rotary Foundation which funds many projects including the eradication of polio.
